What is Expense Tracker?
Expense Tracker is a personal finance tool that lets you log expenses in seconds using an iPhone Shortcut — no app to open. Your spending is then organised, categorised, and visualised in a clean dashboard.
Do I need to open an app every time I log an expense?
No. The iPhone Shortcut lets you log expenses directly from your Lock Screen, Home Screen, or the Action button — without ever opening the app.
What devices does it work on?
The dashboard works on any device with a modern browser. The one-tap shortcut works on iPhone and iPad running iOS 16 or later.

How do I install the shortcut?
After signing up and subscribing, visit the Shortcut Setup page in the app. Follow the three steps: install the shortcut, copy your API key, and paste it into the shortcut. Total setup time is under 60 seconds.
The shortcut says 'Untrusted Shortcut' — what do I do?
Go to Settings → Shortcuts → toggle on 'Allow Untrusted Shortcuts'. This is required because the shortcut was not published through the App Store. It is completely safe.
Can I change the expense categories?
Yes — but only edit the category list. Open the shortcut (tap •••), scroll to the 'Choose from list' action, and add, remove, or rename categories. Do not change any other part of the shortcut as it may break the connection to the app.
How do I know the expense was saved?
The shortcut shows a confirmation notification after each successful entry. You can also open the Overview page in the app to see it immediately.
The shortcut fails or shows a URL error.
Check that your API key is pasted correctly — the full value in the Authorization header should read 'bearer eyJhbGci…'. Also confirm you have an active internet connection. If the issue persists, generate a new API key on the Shortcut Setup page and update the shortcut.
Billing & Account
How does billing work?
Expense Tracker is a monthly subscription. You are billed on the same date each month. You can cancel any time from your profile page or directly in Stripe's billing portal.
Is there a free trial?
We do not currently offer a free trial, but you can cancel any time before your next billing date if it is not a good fit.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Go to your Profile page → 'Manage billing'. This opens the Stripe billing portal where you can cancel immediately. Your access continues until the end of the current billing period.
Can I change my API key?
Yes. Go to Settings → API Tokens to create a new token or revoke old ones. Remember to update the key inside the Shortcut as well after generating a new one.
Privacy & Security
Is my data safe?
Yes. All expense data is stored in your personal account, protected by Row Level Security (RLS). No other user can access your data.
How is my API key stored?
Your API key is stored as a one-way SHA-256 hash. Even we cannot read your raw key. All data is transmitted over HTTPS.
Do you share my data with anyone?
No. Your data is never sold or shared with third parties. We use Supabase for storage and Stripe for payments — both are industry-standard, privacy-compliant services. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
